Do I need a doctor’s referral to see a podiatrist?
No, you don’t need a referral to book an appointment at LR Podiatry. We are a private clinic, and you can self-refer. If your GP or another healthcare professional recommends podiatry, you’re welcome to bring any relevant medical notes.
Following booking your appointment, we firstly require a medical history form to be completed. This can be completed prior to the appointment, though if you have any questions, do save them for the practitioner.
Much like visiting the dentist, your consultation will be with a practitioner where you will sit in a podiatrist’s chair. The Podiatrist will ask questions prior to any treatment being given and, if applicable, discuss the treatment options available. Treatment will not be undertaken until you have given consent.
Dependent on your individual needs, a variety of different pieces of diagnostic equipment and tests may be used.
Treatment can often commence during your initial assessment; however, this depends on the problem at hand and is not always the case.
It’s natural to feel concerned about discomfort during treatment. Conditions like ingrown toenails can be sensitive, but most patients experience significant relief after treatment. If needed, we can use local anaesthetic to ensure the procedure is as comfortable as possible.

In the UK, the terms mean the same thing. ‘Podiatrist’ is the modern term, and all podiatrists must be HCPC-registered to practise. You can check our qualifications here

Yes! Verrucas are one of our absolute specialities at LR Podiatry. We offer two evidence-based treatment options: Swift Microwave Therapy and needling. Both treatments are highly effective, with an 80% success rate. However, verrucas can be tricky to treat, and by nature, no treatment can guarantee complete resolution. Our team will assess your case individually and provide the best approach to give you the highest chance of success.
Plantar fasciitis is a common cause of heel pain. It’s inflammation of the thick band of tissue on the bottom of your foot. At LR Podiatry, we offer expert assessments, orthotic prescriptions, and shockwave therapy to help relieve pain and speed up recovery.
Yes, we accept many private health insurers. It’s best to check with your provider to confirm your level of cover for podiatry treatment.
If you have any medical history related to your foot concern, bring notes, prescriptions, or previous orthotics. Comfortable footwear and a list of any questions you have are also helpful.
We are GDPR compliant. Consultations are confidential; anything that is said during an appointment cannot be shared with anyone else unless non-disclosure may risk your own or someone else’s health. Information can be shared with other professionals with your consent. See our privacy policy for more details.
We understand that plans change. Please give us at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to reschedule to avoid cancellation fees.
